Head in the Clouds – choir singers and percussionists’ clothes

Dear Parents,

Your children have worked hard on Head in the Clouds. We are all very excited for the upcoming shows!

Along with a large number of other students, your child will be active on and off stage as musician and/or stage hand. During the performances, these two groups need to wear dark clothes. May I ask you to select the following clothes and have them ready for dress rehearsals (the week starting Dec. 8) and the final performances on Dec. 15, 16 and 17?

 

Girls:

  • Black shoes, black socks (no stripes, letters etc.; no heels. Must be comfortable.

    Sneakers ok!) Long black trousers (comfortable, rugged. Jeans ok!) OR

  • Black skirt, dark tights (must be comfortable) Black shirt or long sleeve (no letters,

    stripes, design patterns etc.)

 

Boys:

  • Black shoes, black socks (no stripes, letters, design patterns etc.; no heels. Must be comfortable. Sneakers ok!)
  • Long black trousers (must be comfortable, best if rugged. Jeans ok!)
  • Black shirt or long sleeve (no letters, stripes, designs etc.)

在过去的几周里孩子们都在为我们即将到来的音乐剧 Head in the Clouds 忙碌的排 练着,我们都对接下来的演出充满期待。

届时您的孩子将作为音乐剧的一份子和其他的同学一块参与到演出当中。为了配 合演出,我们决定让他们穿全身黑色的服装,再配合我们为他们准备的五彩的饰 品。所以我能建议您从以下的选项中选适合您孩子的衣服,并帮助他们在正式的 彩排(12 月 8 日开始的那周)和最后的两次演出(12 月 15 日,16 日和 17 日) 之前准备好吗?

 

女孩

  • 黑色的袜子和鞋 (没有条纹,字母,蕾丝等装饰。请不要为孩子准备高跟鞋)

Actors

The actors are like the shell of the play. Being an actor is the most difficult job because everyone depends on you. Actors have to rehearse again and again to perfect it.

 

PR

We have to write, draw and advertise this massive play. We need to make a big website. During the big skit we also have to give show guides. We are ready for the show!

 

Costumes

[This group is] making costumes for the actors by themselves. They use lots and lots of things like card board and other stuffs.

 

Props

The props group is like the decorator of the shell: They are beautifying the stage to make it alive every way they could.

 

 

Story and Script

The story and script group is making the story of the play. They have done very hard over the weeks because they are the core of the play – without them, how can the play go on?

[The group] writes our lines and makes it interesting. They need to know English very well and have great imagination. They made an awesome script under extreme pressure. If they make a mistake, all groups will be in trouble. I think they were phenomenal.

 

Carnival of the Animals

Grade 2 and 3 are listening to and working with Camille Saint-Saens‘ Carnival of the Animals. Plenty of age-appropriate, witty and very enjoyable music! Don’t hesitate to play this music at home if you can get hold of a good recording.

Where to buy music instruments

A lot of parents asked about where to buy instruments for their kids. For guitars, I recommend this shop in Puxi:

World Wide Music

433 East Jin Ling Lu

 

Most of Jin Ling Lu is full of music shops, and you can take a look at other stores to compare prices! Be aware of fake instruments which I of course do not recommend.

Good guitar brands include Yamaha, Ibanez, Taylor and Aria.

I suggest to start with a Spanish guitar and after 2 – 3 years add/switch over to the electric guitar. Not the other way round! In any case, I do not recommend electric guitar for kids younger than 12.

Also ask the shop attendant to advise you on the right size of instrument for your child.
